Mr. President,
Iceland welcomes the delegation of Niger and its national report.
In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:
- Abolish the death penalty.
- Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
- Criminalize all forms of GBV, including marital rape.
- Eradicate child marriage.
- Raise the minimum age of marriage to 18 years without exception.
- Protect and promote sexual reproductive health and rights and ensure access to sexual- and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services across the country.
- Legalize abortion in all circumstances.
- Adopt a comprehensive national anti-discrimination law that explicitly covers SOGIESC as prohibited grounds for discrimination.
I wish Niger all success for its review.
I thank you.
