Statement by Iceland

Mr. President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of Niger and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Abolish the death penalty.
2. Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
3. Criminalize all forms of GBV, including marital rape.
4. Eradicate child marriage.
5. Raise the minimum age of marriage to 18 years without exception.
6. Protect and promote sexual reproductive health and rights and ensure access to sexual- and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services across the country.
7. Legalize abortion in all circumstances.
8. Adopt a comprehensive national anti-discrimination law that explicitly covers SOGIESC as prohibited grounds for discrimination.
