Gender Statistics

Gender statistics are an important tool to evaluate the state of equality affairs and reflect the differences and inequalities between women and men in all areas of life. Act No 150/2020 on Equal Status and Equal Rights Irrespective of Gender states the provision on the obligation for public bodies to make a distinction between genders when processing statistical data. It covers all statistical data processing, since such processing is the prerequisite for the government to be able to apply gender mainstreaming to all policy making and planning.

Statistics broken down by gender can among other place be found on the website of Statistics Iceland. The site provides detailed information on various topics, including population, education, labor market, migration and income, with data categorized by gender.
