Ambassador Stefánsson Presented His Credentials to King Felipe VI of Spain
During his meeting with King Felipe VI and Mr. José Manuel Albares Bueno, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, the Ambassador discussed the various opportunities the establishment of the Embassy in Madrid brings to further strengthen the already successful relations between Iceland and Spain in the fields of trade and culture.
Currently, Spain is the third largest export market for Icelandic seafood products and has, for decades, been one of the most popular destinations for Icelandic tourists.
Furthermore, the Governments of Iceland and Spain have maintained close political cooperation in the fields of international affairs and security and defence, and the Spanish Air and Space Force has recently concluded air surveillance patrols around Iceland on behalf of NATO. Iceland and Spain also share common views and values with regard to human rights, climate issues and development cooperation.
